Story of Turkish Carpet

The earliest Turkish carpet or Turkish area rugs were woven in the Seljuk period back in the thirteenth century. Some of these designs suggest Turkmen origins and influence. The Ottoman Empire gradually absorbed the mini-states that emerged in Anatolia after the decline of the Seljuks. The earlier Anatolian rugs throughout the 18th century tend to have red z-spun and red wefts.
